How can I modify the format in the grapf? Atoumatically it is in currency but in the query the number is decimal and in the graph is as average.
I see in the format tile but I don't resolve the problem. Thank you for help. Go to Solution. There is an example for your reference. Regards, Lydia. View solution in original post. The second screen shot is from the Query Editor. So, you do not want it in currency and you want something other than the average? Not sure what is incorrect.

However, on the surface one potential drawback is the lack of formatting one can apply to the columns. This post will describe in further detail what I mean and show how to overcome this issue.
Here I am pulling a set of data into Power Query and looking to format various columns with appropriate data types such as integer, currency, and date. I set the appropriate data types. We can inspect each column that we formatted and will see that the Whole Number and Currency turned into a General format. However, the Date data type actually does come through as a Date format.
Yes, we can set it in Excel like normal but the problem is that when you refresh the data it will revert back to non-formatted columns. To get around this, click on the Data tab at the top and select Properties. You can now format the columns in Excel like normal and it will retain formatting changes after data has been refreshed! This works very well and you can format data just like normal in Excel.
The only downside is that it is workbook specific. If you use the same query, possibly from the Power BI Data Catalog query, it will not retain the formatting changes and you will need to format each column again in every workbook you use. Wonder what that box is for. You are commenting using your WordPress. You are commenting using your Google account.

But what if your data format keeps changing? Then you either need to change the query to adapt to the new format or change the source data files before they get consumed by power query. I recently came across this in my work, in order to get things done I changed the data each time at first.
I obviously wanted to come up with a solution that would not require me changing data each time. I had some columns that were sometimes not in the data. I needed to refer to the last of these values in a custom column and had tried using a try otherwise to reference a field that might not be there.
The second bit of changing format was the actual column heading value for one of the columns. The first step is to import the source data based on one of the sample CSV files. Excel will automatically create some basic steps for the Power Query data import, but we will need to review and adjust where necessary to make sure they will work for all the possible data formats we are dealing with.
Our source data will have a maximum of 6 columns in it but may have less. If the file you import as a sample has less, you will need to edit the Source step of the query. This will ensure the query successfully imports all the data columns from our CSV files. We can change this step by typing over the number in the formula bar and then pressing Enter to confirm the change.
When there are fewer columns in the data than the 6 specified in the Source step, we will import extra columns with column headings Column 1, Column 2 etc… We will deal with these extra columns by removing them in a later step.
After the Source step of the query, Excel will create a Promote Headers step since the first row in our files contains column headings. Excel will also try to guess the data type of each row during the import and changes the types accordingly. Delete the step with a left click on the X to the left hand side of the step name in the Applied Steps area. We now only have a Source step and Promote Headers step in the query. This imports our files in the most generic way possible and we will be using this query to reference the data going forward.
We will also need to create a query that produces the name of the revenue column heading that changes. To do this we will reference the Source Data query and transform the data to a single value output of the column heading.Skip to main content. Exit focus mode. E Returns 2. Users online Power BI designer is based upon the Power Query formula language informally known as "M" and in this tip we look at how to convert and format numbers using the M language.
Unfortunately, the advanced editor inside the Power BI designer does not support syntax highlighting. It can be really easy to make mistakes. Just download the language file from his blog entry. Choose the language menu at the top. Next, select the define your language sub-menu. You should have the above dialogue box at this point.
Today, we are going to learn about how to convert numbers saved in text data types to a numerical data types. Knowing the positive and negative limits is an important consideration. Trying to stuff a large number into a small numerical data type will result in a error.
The image below shows the first M language file that we are going to work with today. You can download the sample files here. One powerful concept in this language is a list. The MyData statement creates a list of numbers from to The Table.
FromList function converts our list of numbers to a table object that we are familiar with. By default, the first field is named column1. The next statement uses the Table. RenameColumns function to change the name to [Row].34 Formatting Decimal Numbers Power BI
The next two statements use the Table. AddColumn function to create computed columns. I wanted a [No] field to reflect the current row number. The [Limits] column has a complex formula. We wanted to raise 2 to the power of absolute value of the [Raw] column. If the [Raw] column is negative, make the result negative and add one. If the [Raw] column is positive, subtract one from the final result. Right now, the data would be returned as a numerical data type.
This will not do, since I want to pass the first set of M language functions a text data type. The Number. ToText function is applied to convert the final result to a text data type. We want to write a M language statement without using the menus.
Again, choose the get data button from the ribbon. Find the blank query type on the other sub-menu. Choosing the connect button should open the query designer with a blank query.I am creating a simple Table in Power BI and trying to get rid of decmials but cant seem to find an option fo number formating anywhere, i can Edit Query and change the format but it rounds off numbers incorrectly and even after that Table visual will not remove 2 decimal places.
In Data view, choose your table, choose your column and on the Modeling tab where it says "Auto", Formatting section edit this to be 0. In report, select table, click on the column you want to sort, if it is sorted the wrong way, click again.
You can also set a "Sort By" column if you need a special type of sorting. I have updated my model and set the decimal to 0. After doing that my model is getting currepted. Found this solution while trying to figure out the decimal places. One thing I'm perplexed about though. I am wondering how this can be done on a column that you are showing as a percent of the total such as below. How do I adjust this to a single decimal place? I have the same issue but when i go to modeling tab the formatting section is all greyed out and won't let me select anything?
